“Honey, did you know we could order bees from this company and have them shipped to our house?” – This simple sentence my wife uttered while we were sitting on the couch changed my life.
What started out as a normal evening with my wife flipping through a magazine and me watching tv turned into a journey that lead to us becoming beekeepers. Once this seed was planted in my brain I started researching bees and quickly got sucked into this crazy world of keeping bees. We joined our local beekeeping association, read books and took an online class. This only fueled my passion for these insects and pretty soon we had two hives, then three hives, then started doing bee rescues and relocations, got another few hives and before we knew it several years had passed and we were deep into the life of beekeeping.
While the journey has been exciting and fun, it was also frustrating at times. Not knowing what to do in the beginning when things went wrong, making mistakes that decimated entire hives and accidentally killing a queen while marking her (yes I actually did this, and was furious with myself). These were only a few of the things that went sideways in my first few years of beekeeping. But as I got more knowledge and sharpened my skills, my bees began to thrive into healthy productive colonies.
We remember what it is like to get started in beekeeping and we want to help you avoid our mistakes and guide you through the mistakes you make on your own. Our goal is simple “Help beekeepers raise healthy bees, expand colonies, and produce honey.”
